I know, I need to think of more to be critical of.  But in the meantime, I love this song, because it alway seems to fit.

Matthew Sweet - Get Older

I suppose I’ll end up eventually putting up every one of the songs from this album, but for some reason this song really resonates today.

But I'm Hot!

I was out and about around town today, and it was hot, 90 degrees hot (that’s like 1000 C for any Canadian readers).  I decided to hit the Apple store, where in the window they’re advertising their new special laptop battery that’s eco-friendly because it lasts up to 3 times longer than conventional laptop batteries and so that’s less landfill.  Yay Earth!   Then it was off to Whole Foods, where they sell shopping bags that say “I used to be a plastic bottle!”, and ask me if I want to donate to some Rwandan kids thing, and then ask if I want to donate the 5 cent credit I get for using my own former-plastic-bottle bag.

Essentially, I live in the land of eco-awareness.  The epicenter of the greening of America.  And yet, in both places?  The air conditioners are working full blast and all the doors are open, spilling that wonderful coolness onto the sidewalk for everyone else.

Brian Eno - St. Elmo’s Fire

Robert Fripp is one of my favorite guitarists (take that, Yngwie Malmsteen!) and here is my 2nd favorite Fripp solo.  The song itself is lovely, and always makes me a little teary.

Matthew Sweet - I’ve Been Waiting

Alright, alright, you win!  I’ve finally updated this, although song posts are admittedly kind of lame.  Still, listen to it.  And be happy I didn’t post some ridiculous Omegle non-interaction.

I Am Old, Exhibit B

I CANNOT hear this:

But my cat can. Okay, I can kind of hear it if I really concentrate and turn it way up. But that hardly counts. Please send me money for a new cane.

I Am An Old, Exhibit A

Several weeks ago I volunteered for a knee MRI at work (I basically lie in the magnet and get paid to take a nap), and the tech noticed something unusual, so she sent it to be read by one of the Radiologists. I found out today I have a meniscus tear in my left knee! I asked the Radiologist that read it out how it could happen, and he told me that “in your age group it’s quite common”. Fuck. On the plus side, I’m asymptomatic.  On the other plus side, I finally get to wear my knee brace:

Claude Lelouch - C’etait Un Rendezvous on Vimeo.

“On an August morning in 1978, the story goes, French director Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris.

The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes. The driver barrel-assed all the way from Porte Dauphine (on the city’s western edge, adjacent to the Bois de Bologne) to the Basilica Sacre Coeur in Montmartre.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit. The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 mph in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up several one-way streets.

Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground until a DVD release a few years ago.”  (via)

Best to watch the entire clip through.

If you didn’t get any coffee this morning, this should do the trick.

Being the car geek that I am, I have to point out that this was filmed using a Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9 and the sound was dubbed in post-production.
